Black Leopard Safaris

Ten days, two 4x4s and Kenya's best national parks, from Nairobi to the coast. A self-drive safari for Black Leopard.

Black Leopard rents 4x4s to people who want to drive their own safari, so that’s exactly what we did. We landed in Nairobi and spent ten days on the road in a Land Rover Defender and a Suzuki Jimny: north to Aberdare National Park, around Soysambu Conservancy, then south through the Chyulu Hills and Tsavo East National Park, finishing on the coast at Kilifi.

The idea was to show Kenya’s best national parks and wildlife from the comfort of your own rental car. No tour bus and no fixed itinerary, just the road and whatever was around the next corner.

I directed, shot and edited it: the Sony FX3 and GoPro HERO13 for the drive, FPV to chase the cars across the plains and over the rocks, and stills on 35mm film and a Mamiya 7 medium-format camera.
